Dublin is the cultural and administrative capital of the Republic of Ireland and is a huge draw-card for tourists hoping to experience a little bit of Irish hospitality.  Its streets are lined with quaint Irish pubs and it's sight-seeing hotspots include the National Museum and National Gallery of Ireland, the Dublin Castle and the Christ Church Cathedral.  To truly experience Ireland, however, it's important to get out into the countryside: day-trips out of Dublin are also popular and as such it is advisable that you hire a car for the duration of your stay.  Nearby the city are the Bru na Boinne tombs (County Meath), the Powerscourt Gardens (County Wicklow), Carlow Castle (County Carlow), and Howth (County Dublin).  Further afield but still within easy driving distance are Belfast (Northern Ireland's capital), Kildare and Limerick.

Dublin is serviced by the Dublin International Airport, a busy single terminal complex which is visited by a large number of airlines.  Annually it averages close to twenty-five million passengers, a testament to the popularity of holidaying in Ireland.  British Airways, BMI, FlyBe and Ryan Air are amongst the many airlines that operate from Dublin Airport, though this is expected to expand with the planned construction of a second terminal in the years to come.  There are a number of car hire companies based out of Dublin International, including Budget, Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Argus, Europcar, Alamo and more.  To get into Dublin from the airport (which is approximately ten kilometres north of the city), look out for the R127 Dublin Road as this will lead you directly onto the M1 and straight into the city centre.
